WAgile: Deliver Better, Not Just Faster.
WHY HYBRID? WHY WAGILE™
Approximately 87,000 PMP certifications have been awarded in Canada, and 1.4 million worldwide. In addition, there are about 37000 agile certifications globally. Despite the ability of these certifications to offer standardized skills and best practices, and their demonstrated ability to improve project success rates, projects are still failing. Only 44% of projects deliver their intended benefits using the waterfall approach favored by the PMI. According to some statistics, agile projects are more successful, with a 64% success rate. However, this still means that over 35% of projects are failing.
Look around you and observe how projects are delivered in your organization. Do they fully adhere to either of the common methodology's? Are your projects given all the resources needed to properly deliver waterfall? Can leadership give up decision-making power to the lower levels as required by agile? Do they in your organization?
More realistically, a mixed or hybrid approach is being used. This is why a hybrid approach is now the second most common software project management approach and why it needs its own best practices and standards. That’s why I have given it a name - WAGILE.
